“Meet You There”

A poem about self-forgiveness

I want to meet you at the street where I left you,

By the corner where anger and resentment intersect.

Where personal tragedies and apocalypses collide.

There.

That is where I want to meet you.

I want to meet you where self-compassion and self-forgiveness meet,

Where they make love breathlessly.

Where they produce a love child called healing.

There.

That is where I want to meet you.

Since we last met,

I have since grown wings,

I fly to you with arms full of love.

I am ready to meet the scared boy.

I am ready to love him unconditionally.

I will whisper a thousand prayers to him.

Then baptize him in the rivers of his ancestors.

Then send him away as a grown man healed and ready to fly.
